PRC character creator

So I got the PRC pack, managed to install it and can get it set up for
individual modules. But what I can't get working is the character
creator. I can use the prestige classes and the feats and spells, but I
can't start a new character from scratch, I can only use the new base
classes as if they were prestige classes which have no requirements (I
can be a Fighter 1/Archer 1, but I can't just be an Archer 1) and I
can't use any of the new races... apparantly what you need to do is run
an independant character editor program to create a character using
anything from the PrC other than the standard races and base classes.

Oddly, though, I seem to be able to use PRC feats and select PRC spells,
so the explanation I read, that the NWN character creation engine runs
before the hak packs are installed is... well, not the whole story.

There you go, that's the character creator.

Hmm, tried that and nothing happens.

To be sure, I just did it over again, and was prompted as to whether I
wanted to replace the files I already had with the new ones which looked
identical. Yep, still does nothing.

No, wait, it does something. A MS-DOS type box pops up for about a
tenth of a second, then goes away.

Other than that, nothing.

On further inspection, I didn't have Java installed. The links to do
that on the PRC website didn't work at all, however diging around some
more, I found the Sun.com website which pointed to the Java.com website
which had a simple link to download and install the latest version of
the Java Runtime Environment.

Now the CC.jar works when I click on it, however it gives me access only
to the original NwN races and the original NwN classes.

There's probably something simple I'm still missing, and I'll dig around
some more trying to find it, but if you have a suggestion I'm open:)

Yep, found it:

When running the CC.jar, there's a Settings button
In settings|hak files, I added prc_race.hak, prc_2das.hak and
prc_textures.hak.
In settings|custom tlk, I put prc_consortium.tlk.
I checked "Use Default TLK".

Looks like I'm up and running now.

Grats :)
I haven't been checking back until now, but I see you've got it figured out.
The PRC website is at http://nwnprc.netgamers.co.uk/

Yeah, that was my original approach, but it really didn't work.

What got it working for me was the vault site you pointed me at, and a
pointer in the thread there to an earlier thread which had actual
working information.

Oh, and going directly to Sun.com instead of using their pointer to what
seems to be an outdated version of the java software, that helped a lot
too, but again the suggestion was on the NwN vault thread.

Thanks
Lance
